Whether it's the Christmas season or not, I think we can all agree that Sandra Bullock's role in the entertaining 2009 rom-com The Heat is a present that keeps on giving. In this regard, The Proposal is typical.

There's a lot of genuine emotion and funny moments, plus a healthy dosage of family conflict that everybody can relate to. In short, it's the perfect film to watch if you're looking to relax and let your mind wander after a stressful day at the office, a chaotic day with the kids, or even a long overdue visit with your own family.

It's a good thing that there are lots of comedies like The Proposal to watch when you need a pick-me-up at times like those. A handful of our favorites are listed below.

It's possible that Benjamin Barry and Andie Anderson look like any other couple. But alas, such is not the situation. Benjamin bets a woman before they began dating that she will fall in love with him within ten days. Andie, on the other hand, was tasked with writing “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” for the magazine where she currently works.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have terrific chemistry and are both hilarious. Because of this, “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” shot to fame and is now considered a classic of romantic comedies. Watch it if you're in the mood for a funny and clever film.

9. My Fake Fiancé

Jennifer (Melissa Joan Hart) and Vince (Joey Lawrence) in “My Fake Fiancé” are desperate for money, so they plan to fake their engagement and wedding for the gifts. In this touching family drama, we see how getting hitched means taking on not just one new family, but an entirely new clan. The comedic gold in this piece comes from the protagonists' first inability to grasp this fact. Even though there are some cliches, by the end you'll feel satisfied and satisfied.

8. My Best Friend’s Wedding 

Playing against type, Julia Roberts plays a nasty food critic who tries to stop her best friend's wedding. Why? Dermot Mulroney and her made a contract there that if they are not married by age 28, they will wed each other.

In any case, the combination of Roberts' resolve and Cameron Diaz's chirpy performance as his fiancee makes for an entertaining trip with a twisty conclusion.

7. Just Go With It 

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston star in this quirky comedy about a womanizer plastic surgeon (Sandler) romancing a much younger schoolteacher (Brooklyn Decker). She’s not convinced he’s given up his playboy ways, so he enlists his loyal assistant (Aniston) to pretend to be his soon-to-be ex-wife. Of course, this backfires in more ways than one.

6. The Ugly Truth

To establish his beliefs on relationships and assist the romantically challenged Abby Richter to find love, her correspondent subjects her to a series of offensive tests. The fallout from that, though, is surprising. There is a “war of the sexes” vibe to the romantic comedy “The Ugly Truth,” which stars Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. The entire plot is hilarious, and the humor will resonate with a wide range of audiences.

5. What Happens in Vegas

The plot of this Sin City-based tale centers on a couple who, after a night of partying and gambling, learn that they are now husband and wife. They are both now attempting to obtain all the cash, which is proving to be a difficult challenge. The romance comedy “What Happens in Vegas,” starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher, is hilarious and heartwarming.

4. Sweet Home Alabama

Now betrothed to the mayor's son, Reese Witherspoon plays a former southern beauty turned successful fashion designer (Patrick Dempsey). But there's only one small problem: she's still married to her high school sweetheart (Josh Lucas).

How should a lady proceed? She returns home to seek an annulment in order to wed her true love. What if she's already married to him? The equivalent of “dum dum dum”

3. Leap Year

To put it bluntly, polar opposites attract. Amy Adam's overly cautious character in this 2010 romantic comedy is planning to propose to her lover on Leap Year by flying to Ireland. On the way to Dublin, however, she is unexpectedly approached by the nefarious figure played by Matthew Goode and offered a ride. Romance, shenanigans, and sizzling Irish accents follow.

2. The Wedding Date

Kat Ellis hires a man to pose as her lover during her sister's wedding out of fear of her ex and his family. Several unintended results arise from this, though. The romantic comedy “Wedding Date” features likable new faces and an original story. In addition to its stunning location, the plot will undoubtedly take you by surprise with its surprising turns. Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney are a hoot to see together, and they bring a lot to the table comedic-wise. If you liked “The Proposal,” you will adore this.

1. Green Card 

Almost identical to The Proposal in plot and tone, this 1990 film follows Gerard Depardieu as George, a Frenchman who must marry Andie MacDowell's Bronto, a New Yorker, in order to save his job. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that these two wacky kids eventually fall madly in love, albeit not without some challenges along the way. Whatever the case may be, c'est la vie!
