Bachata has a monarch who is well-known and is credited with bringing the genre from obscurity to a new level of popularity. This is none other than Romeo Santos, a Dominican-born New Yorker who is recognised as the “King of Bachata” in Latin music. He's stated that he's working on two projects for June 25, both of which will be on-demand streaming audiovisuals created by Sony Music Latin in collaboration with Chimby Productios.
In the film, Romeo also leads his audience on a tour across rural parts of the Dominican Republic by going on his Gira del Pueblo, which includes free performances in tiny towns and villages where live music has never been performed before. Both plays will be in Spanglish with English or Spanish subtitles, and tickets have been on sale since last Thursday, May 13.

KING OF BACHATA weaves together the history of bachata with the musical legacy of Dominican singer-songwriter Romeo Santos, the genre's foremost champion and superstar. The film follows the rise of the downtrodden genre from the Dominican Republic's repressed countryside to its extraordinary international acclaim, culminating in a world-record-breaking concert with Romeo Santos and the great bachateros who paved the path before him.
While the documentary will serve as an open window for all of his followers, the performance will serve as a method to bring a historic moment in the genre within their grasp, as it will be a moment when the stage will be filled with the most iconic bacheteros who participated on the album Utopia.
That was also the evening when the first Spanish-language performer set a new attendance record at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. Daddy Yankke, Marc Anthony, Thalia, Cardi B, and producers Emilio Estefan and Tommy Mottola are all featured in both projects.
In 2019, Romeo Santos set a new record at MetLife Stadium by presenting the highest-grossing music event for a single night. He also created history by being the first Latin musician to perform at the venue in New Jersey. “Utopia” was a sold-out 80,000-person event that was the first of its kind in promoting the Dominican Republic-born musical genre of bachata. Along with his finest hits, Santos asked famous bachateros like El Chaval de la Bachata, Frank Reyes, and Luis Vargas to play with him onstage.
