Disney Speedstorm, a free-to-play racing game, has been announced by Gameloft!

Gameloft revealed a new racing game based on iconic Disney characters during last night's Nintendo Direct event, which came as a complete surprise. The studio is best known for the Asphalt mobile game franchise, and it is now looking to expand into the console and PC gaming markets. Let's dive deep into Disney Speedstorm!

It is a cart racer game in the same vein as Mario Kart, but it incorporates a variety of characters from various Disney and Pixar properties – including movies, cartoons, and television shows. It allows players to take control of a variety of champions and drop into virtual tracks that are reminiscent of locations from various Disney franchises. At this point, the reveal trailer has shown off the ‘Pirates Island' track from Pirates of the Caribbean and the ‘Jungle Ruins' map from The Jungle Book, respectively.

For the time being, Mickey Mouse, Mulan, Captain Jack Sparrow, Donald Duck, and Sulley from Monsters, Inc. are on the list of characters. A number of additional characters will be revealed at a later date, and the game will also include some post-release content. Each character will be equipped with a unique set of abilities that will aid them in their efforts to turn the tide of a race.

Mickey receives short bursts of increased speed, while Mulan inflicts some explosive damage on nearby vehicles. Player's can unlock ultimate moves that are tailored to each character, similar to the items they collect in Mario Kart. These moves are perfect for turning the tables in the final seconds of a race.

The team at Disney Speedstorm is driven to create a game that feels like home for Disney and Pixar fans while also being unique to the arcade racing genre, according to Alexandru “Sasha” Adam, VP and Studio Manager, in a press release. “We are excited to be working on a dream project like Disney Speedstorm,” Adam said. Our goal was to create a fast and gripping competitive experience, and the gameplay mechanics, racer abilities, and location design were all tailored to achieve that goal.

Disney Speedstorm

Disney Speedstorm is a free-to-play game with new seasons being added on a regular basis, each bringing new champions, carts, and circuits to the game's roster. Despite the fact that Gameloft has not made an official statement, it is reasonable to assume that cosmetic items will be locked behind a paywall, thereby providing a revenue stream for the development team.
