Dharmendra was born as Dharam Singh Deol on December 8, 1935, in the village of Nasrali in the Khanna tehsil of Ludhiana, Punjab, India. As of 2022, he is 86 years old. In his early years, he lived in the village of Sahnewal.

As a child, Dharmendra didn't want to go to school and would often bother her mother on the way. He went to Government Senior Secondary School, Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, Punjab, for his high school education.

Then, Dharmendra went to Malerkotla to have Jaan Mohammed (John & Sons) work on his portfolio, and he applied to participate. Filmfare Magazine gave him the “New Talent Hunt Award,” and he moved to Mumbai to find work.
