Demon Slayer has already been picked up for a third season, so you can rest easy knowing that the story isn’t over yet. The hugely popular anime series has a lot of fans all over the world.
Its first spin-off movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, was the highest-grossing Japanese film. These fans are now eagerly waiting to hear when the show will come back.
The second season, which included the Mugen Train and Entertainment District arcs, is over, so we have to wait for Tanjiro and Nezuko to go on more adventures. Here’s what you need to know about season 3 of Demon Slayer.
Plot of Demon Slayer in Season 3
The plot of season three will be based on the ninth arc of the original manga, which is called the “Swordsmith Village” arc. It’s important to note that the Demon Slayer manga ended in 2020.
This gives anime fans a unique chance to find out (roughly) what the future holds for Tanjiro and the rest of the group. The Swordsmith Village arc starts right after the Entertainment District arc, which ended with Tanjiro and Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui beating the demon siblings Gyutaro and Daki.
The only thing that was lost for good in this epic battle was Tanjiro’s sword that could kill demons. In the third season of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro will go to the Swordsmith Village to have Hotaru Haganezuka fix his sword.
Tanjiro and his friends will deal with many demons (including an Upper-Rank Six that splits themselves across multiple bodies). Mist Hashira’s friend Muichiro Tokito steps in to take care of the thread, which is lucky.
Who are the New Characters in Demon Slayer Season 3?
As part of the cast for the Swordsmith Village arc, Tanjiro (Natsuki Hanae), Zenitsu (Hiro Shimono), Inosuke (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka), and Nezuko (Akari Kitou) will all be back. Two other characters, the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanji, who we’ve seen before in the show, will join them.
You can also expect to see more Hashiras and members of the Twelve Upper Moons/Twelve Kibuki in future seasons. The director will be Haruo Satozaki, and Akira Matsushima will be in charge of making the characters.
Release Date of Demon Slayer Season 3
Ufotable hasn’t said when Demon Slayer Season 3 will be released yet. There’s a good chance it will come out at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, but the COVID-19 pandemic could slow down the making of the new episodes.
Ufotable’s work is usually consistent. The first season of Demon Slayer came out in the fall of 2019, and the Mugen Train feature film came out in Japanese theatres in the fall of 2020.
The Mugen Train Arc of the show started airing in the fall of 2021, and the Entertainment District Arc came out in the winter of 2021, so Season 3 should come out in less than two years.

Trailer of Demon Slayer’s Third Season
— Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (English) (@DemonSlayerUSA) April 16, 2022
The first trailer for season 3 of Demon Slayer is out, but it mostly goes over what has already happened.
There are, however, a few glimpses of new footage: the Love and Mist Hashira are shown separately in the sizzle reel, and at the Swordsmith Village, a new sword (which Tanjiro will later use) is being made.
