However, all fans have been waiting for a full-fledged successor to the first game for the better decade. We've heard whispers of a “Dead Island 2” for a while now, but Deep Silver has yet to confirm anything.

It's worth keeping an eye out for Dead Island 2 at E3 this year, as it's been in development for over three years, so I'd expect to hear something. I'm hoping to see some gameplay footage this time.
“Thanks for the Dead Island 2 mention,” Deep Silver joked recently. (It's about to go.) In response to a joke about Dead Island 2 in the Dying Light 2 developer update video, “We just can't offer you a specific date yet.”
Their antics appear to have no end in sight. I'm hoping they have something to say as soon as possible. Dead Island 2 should be released in 2022-2023 if all goes according to plan. Embracer Group titles take an average of 2-4 years to develop.
