It has been confirmed that the third “Creed” film, which is a sequel to the “Rocky” films of the 1970s and 1980s, will be released in theatres shortly. The first two films served as a sort of handover from the classic “Rocky” films to the next generation of boxers in the “Rocky” universe, with the third film serving as a sequel.
Continue reading to find out all we know so far about “Creed III,” including when it will be released and who we can expect to see in the ring.
What Exactly is Creed III?
As the third instalment in the Creed series, “Creed III” recounts the path of Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, with whom Rocky had a confrontation in 1976's “Rocky.” Adonis has followed in his father's footsteps and trained as a boxer, and the first two films follow him on his journey through the ring, among other things.
During the second instalment of the “Creed” series, Adonis went to battle against Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago, the man who murdered Apollo Creed in the ring. In the third film, the events of the sequel will be carried forward, with the majority — but not all — of the original cast returning.
Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as Adonis Creed, and Tessa Thompson reprises her role as Adonis' wife, Bianca, in the sequel. In addition, Phylicia Rashad will reprise her role as Adonis' adoptive mother.
Among the newcomers to the franchise is Jonathan Majors (“Lovecraft Country,” “Loki”), who is expected to play Adonis' key boxing opponent in the upcoming film.
Rocky himself is one of the characters that will not be returning. Sylvester Stallone returned to reprise the role for the first two “Creed” films, but he has already confirmed that he will not be returning for the third instalment.
According to Stallone, “This is probably my final rodeo because what I imagined would happen has happened in a way that I never predicted,” he remarked back in 2018. “Rocky was officially finished for me in 2006, and I was overjoyed with that realisation. This young man then appeared out of nowhere and the entire narrative was transformed.
It progressed to a new generation, with new issues and new experiences. This makes me extremely happy because, as I take a step back and as my tale has been told, a whole new world will open up for the audience, and a whole new world will open up for this generation. Thank you for your assistance, Stephen. And, of course, thanks to you, Michael, for making it possible. You'll have to take up the mantle now.”
The Plot of Creed 3
Following the popularity of the second instalment, which focused on Creed's early years, fans speculated about what the third instalment would involve. The following is a list of some of the most interesting speculations. Following the release of Rocky 2, Stallone spoke with TMZ about the possibility of then-WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder facing Jordan in the role of Clubber Lang (Mr T), the Italian Stallion's adversary in Rocky 3.
Stallone also mentioned the possibility of then-WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder facing Jordan as the son of Clubber Lang (Mr T) in Rocky 3. The real-life fighter had even declared his willingness to accept the role if the opportunity presented itself.
Unfortunately, when the new scary face in Creed 3 was revealed, creative decisions took casting differently (sorry, Wilder) than they had intended. In June 2021, it was reported that Jonathan Majors, of Lovecraft Country and The Harder They Fall fame, would be the fighter's new opponent after he was defeated by Florian Munteanu's Viktor Drago in Creed 2.
What Exactly is the Plot of Creed 3?
At this time, no official narrative for “Creed III” has been announced, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about what they think will happen. Several popular hypotheses about the plot of the third film have surfaced, including the possibility that Adonis Creed may face off against Clubber Lang, the son of the opponent from “Rocky III” (as reported by Men's Health).
Rocky's hot-headed teenage opponent, Lang, is played by Mr T in the 1982 picture. After defeating Rocky in a contest, Lang gets to momentarily grab the heavyweight belt from the Philadelphia fighter. According to expectations, Rocky, with the assistance of his newfound friend Apollo, returns to the ring to face Lang once more and wins.
Considering that the previous instalment of “Creed” saw Adonis take on the son of another former Rocky rival, this scenario doesn't appear to be that far-fetched. But recent revelations could paint a completely different picture of what the film will be like than what has previously been assumed.
During a recent interview with Michael B. Jordan's co-star Jonathan Majors, the actor shared his thoughts on the film “Michael is making a concerted effort to do something different with this production of ‘Creed.' Something a little more personal “(Image courtesy of NME) “It's a story about these two men who are trying to figure things out, and it's different from the others,” he continued.
Consequently, while fans may be wanting to see characters from the earlier films return, it's just as conceivable that Jordan's vision for the final picture will be something that no one anticipates or anticipates.
The Release Date for Creed 3
There is currently no indication on when Creed III will begin production, but the film is expected to hit theatres on November 23, 2022, according to the official release date.
According to the current schedule, it will only be in direct competition on the same day with an unannounced Disney animation project, even though that month will see the release of numerous anticipated box office behemoths, including Captain Marvel 2 and The Flash.
Trailer for Creed 3
Unfortunately, there isn't a trailer for Creed 3 available at this time, either. Due to the November 2022 release date, we will likely see a trailer in the late summer or early autumn of this year.
