When he formed Santana, he helped popularise the Latin-fusion style of music that combines rock, salsa, and jazz in the late 60s and early 70s. While the Santana Blues Band was formed in 1966.

It wasn't until the following year that Santana began to incorporate a wide range of influences into his music, including psychedelic soul acts such as Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix, British rock bands such as The Rolling Stones and the Beatles, and jazz artists like Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
