Pole vaulter Alysha Newman, a Canadian, is elucidating the reason behind her viral twerking celebration upon winning the bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The 30-year-old Newman revealed to CBC Sports on Friday, August 9, that she intended to play a practical joke on her coaches following her victory.
“I told my coaches that I was going to scare them because I want them to loosen up because I'm always getting hurt and getting back on the horse.” stated Newman. “I could feel them being really intense, and there are photos of them being really serious.” Not many coaches can boast that they helped me become an Olympic medallist, but they did.
“So I said I'm going to fake an injury and dance after,” she went on. However, it happened quite naturally. To be honest, I didn't believe I was going to twerk. However, everything came together perfectly in one motion—just by grasping that and twerking to the knee.
Popular model Newman also told CBC Sports that she is not bothered by the backlash she received from Olympic watchers regarding her dance celebration. Newman is well-known on OnlyFans.
“If my friends, family, coaches, or agents said something hurtful, I would take it more [personally],” the woman remarked. “But, to those who don't know me, I have an excellent mind and am mentally strong, so it just kind of rolls off my shoulders and nobody knows what it's like to be in my shoes.”
Newman went on to explain why she uploads the information that she does on her social media pages, which are populated with a variety of workout postings, bikini images, and other initiatives.
She remarked, “I want people to know that there are other things that I do besides pole vaulting.” “I plan to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams and eventually become a multimillionaire by starting my own business and becoming an entrepreneur in another endeavor.”
So, this year, at this point in my life, I was an elite track athlete, but in two months? Who knows? I could be a millionaire.
She told the outlet, “It gives me confidence and I feel good about it,” adding that she doesn't share pictures of herself in her undies. Rather, she shares “many of my workouts, talks about nutrition, and lots of tricks and tips.”
Canada has never won a medal in this competition until Newman's historic bronze medal victory. She cleared 4.85 meters with her jump in Wednesday's final. In her event, she also broke the Canadian record.
Katie Moon of Team USA won the silver medal with a 4.85-meter leap. (Even though they both cleared the same height, Newman placed third because of one more missed attempt.) Nina Kennedy of Australia won the gold medal with a 4.9-meter leap.
