Early Life
Born on the 28th of July, 1982, in Salinas, California to parents Efrain and Isabel Velasquez, Cain was raised by his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As an illegal immigrant from Sonora, Mexico, Efrain had crossed the border into the United States, where he met Isabel, who was born and raised in the United States.
They started dating and ultimately got married, which allowed Efrain to become a citizen of the United States for the first time. The Velasquez family had three children, whose names were Efrain Jr., Adela, and Cain Velasquez. Velasquez was born and raised in Yuma, Arizona, where he currently resides.
Early Career
Kofa High School, where he went 110–10 and twice won the 5A Arizona Wrestling Championship, was his high school, where he wrestled for four years. Velasquez also participated in football for three years. As a senior, he served as captain of both the wrestling and football teams. He used to be a linebacker with the New York Giants in football.
When he graduated from high school, he went on to wrestle for one season at Iowa Central Community College, winning the NJCAA National Championship in the heavyweight division in 2001-2002. In the next year, Velasquez enrolled at Arizona State University.
During his time with the Sun Devils, he finished with an 86–17 record and was ranked fifth in the country in 2005 and fourth in 2006. Professional Career
Following graduation, Velasquez enrolled in the American Kickboxing Academy, where he has been training ever since. In 2006, he made his mixed martial arts debut, defeating esse Fujarczyk in the first round by technical knockout.
In his next fight, Velasquez took on Jeremiah Constant, who was untouchable at the time, and beat him by technical knockout in the first round. In 2008, he competed against Brad Morris for the first fight at UFC 83.
Velasquez appeared in the very first episode of WWE's “SmackDown20th” season, which aired on Fox in 2019. Velasquez went up against Brock Lesnar. Velasquez was scheduled to compete against Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship on August 26th.
