Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2: Is Bunny Girl Senpai Getting a Second Season?

‘Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai), often known as ‘Bunny Girl Senpai,' is one of the year's most popular anime releases.

The comic supernatural love series is based on Hajime Kamoshida's light novel series, which Keeji Mizoguchi illustrated. In June 2019, a film adaptation was released, which also acted as a direct sequel to the anime.

The light novel series presently has four volumes yet to be adopted. Will the anime series ever return? Here's what we know so far.

Is Bunny Girl Senpai Getting a Second Season?

The ‘Bunny Girl Senpai' anime series ended four years ago. However, the anime has yet to be renewed for a second season. In terms of popularity, many fans eagerly await the return of the anime for season 2.

Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2

The anime received an 8.26 rating on MyAnimeList. However, there have been some comments from people who believe the anime is merely overhyped. So, why isn't the anime renewed despite so much demand? The answer could be found in the original material.

There are 11 volumes in the ‘Bunny Girl Senpai' Light Novel Series. The first season of the anime adaptation of ‘Bunny Girl Senpai' covered the first five volumes of the novel series, while the movie adaptation adapted the sixth and seventh volumes.

Assuming the anime requires five volumes to complete a season, we must wait till the novel series releases the 12th volume. Only then will we have adequate source material.

Season 2 will not be renewed or produced if there is defective source material. Don't be concerned; a long break in anime production is expected. Even popular titles such as ‘Mushishi' and ‘Bleach' had to wait nine years for new seasons.

What is the Story of Bunny Girl Senpai and What Will Happen in Season 2?

The anime follows Sakuta Azusagawa; a selfless adolescent determined to aid adolescent actress Mai Sakurajima and those suffering from a condition known as “Adolescence Syndrome.”

Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2

The phenomenon causes youngsters to show strange behaviors such as being invisible, sustaining bodily injuries due to hateful comments, and much more. In a library, Sakuta encountered the young actress Mai, disguised as a bunny girl.

Sakuta became perplexed when he learned that no one else could see Mai save him. He discovered that Mai suffers from “adolescent syndrome,” which causes her to become invisible whenever she clothes appropriately in an attempt to escape her celebrity existence.

People around her appear to forget about her whenever she does so. Kaede, Sakuta's younger sister, also suffers from “adolescence syndrome.” Kaede sustains injuries as a result of online bullying and death threats.

To forget her horrible events, she eventually developed dissociative amnesia. Sakuta chooses to investigate the phenomenon. Along the way, he meets other girls with “Adolescence Syndrome” and grows closer to Mai.

The inaugural season concluded on a high note. Kaede finally leaves the hospital and resolves to return to school, knowing she is no longer alone. Meanwhile, Sakuta and Mai get more close than ever. Shoko, Sakuta's first crush, was introduced in the film, which acted as a direct sequel to the series.

We later discovered that there are two versions of Shoko in their timeline. The second version only exists because Sakuta dies in a car accident on Christmas Day and donates his heart to Shoko, allowing her to survive.

Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2

The characters in the film journey back in time, attempting to correct mistakes from the past that have resulted in many alternate realities. Sakuta and Mai devise a plan to save Sakuta without sacrificing Shoko.

Toward the film's end, Sakuta and Mai come upon Shoko, who has grown into a fourth-grade student. Ultimately, Sakuta and Shoko recognize each other if the show is renewed for another season.

We expect it to carry up the tale where the film left off. The 8th volume of the light novel series, titled ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister on an Outing,' will most likely be the first.

Possible Season 2 Release Date for “Bunny Girl Senpai”

Since there is no official renewal, it will be very long before “Bunny Girl Senpai” season 2 comes out. Before the next book in the light novel series comes out, there is a gap of about one to two years.

Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2

So, the 12th book might not come out until late 2022 or early 2023. If there is enough source material and the anime gets picked up for a second season by next year, “Bunny Girl Senpai” Season 2 won't come out until 2024.

Again, these are just best guesses. We'll have to keep an eye on the changes and change this section when we have more information.
