The third season of Bridgerton, one of Netflix's most popular original series, is now being filmed. This implies that we won't have to wait too much longer for its release.

Sadly, the third novel in Julia Quinn's series will not be adapted for the upcoming season. Romanticizing Mr. Bridgerton, Book 4 is skipped through instead.

Bridgerton's third season is now under production

Though no official date has been set as of yet, Season 3 of Bridgerton will likely become available on Netflix sometime in the early years of 2023. While there may be a lack of specifics, viewers do have access to some intriguing hints about what to expect in the upcoming season.

In particular, Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton will have a romantic subplot in the upcoming third season. Nicola Coughlin, who played Penelope in the previous two seasons, is among the many original cast members who will be back for season three of Bridgerton.

While the upcoming season will again be based on the Bridgerton novels, there have been hints that Netflix could deviate from the novels in certain ways, perhaps introducing new characters and storylines.

How soon might we see Season 3 of Bridgerton?

Season 2 of “Bridgerton” stars: Charithra Chandran as Edwina Sharma, Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma, Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton, Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton, Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton, phoebe dyvenor as Daphne Bassett.

Although we don't yet have information on when Season 3 will premiere, we do know that production will begin in July 2022.

When the show will return is anyone's guess, unlike other Netflix shows. The first season premiered on December 25, 2020 (Christmas Day), and the second premiered on March 25, 2022.

Even yet, since that production has begun in earnest, we can safely assume that we won't have to wait until at least the summer of 2023 to watch Season 3.

Cast rumors for Season 3 of Bridgerton

Without any unexpected departures or inexplicable disappearances, it's safe to assume that the vast majority of the Bridgerton ensemble will be back for season 3.

Not much of Daphne (Phoebe Dyvenor) or Simon (Regé-Jean Page) was seen in Season 2, but there were hints to their future that didn't rule them out.

From Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) in season 2 to Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) in season 3, and the rest of the Bridgerton family, Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), and Julia Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown in season 4, we can expect to see most of the core cast return.

Francesca Bridgerton will be played by a different actress in season 3, which is a major cast shift. Ruby Stokes, who portrayed Francesca up until now, has moved on to star in another Netflix series, Lockwood & Co., while Hannah Dodd (Anatomy of a Scandal) has been cast to take over the role.

Season 3 also welcomes three new regulars: Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips, and James Phoon. Francis portrays Marcus Anderson, as “a captivating personality that lights up whatever room he enters,” who gets the attention of some matriarchs in the tonne but draws the ire of others.

Phillips is excellent as “a charming nobleman with uncommon interests,” or Lord Debling. Phoon will take on the role of Harry Dankworth. According to his bio, “what Dankworth lacks in wit and brains, he more than makes up for with seriously good looks.”

The official Netflix summary for Season 3 of Bridgerton states, “After hearing Colin Bridgerton's (Luke Newton) harsh words about her last season, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on him.

But now she's chosen to settle down with a husband, ideally one who can give her the freedom she needs to keep up her secret identity as Lady Whistledown even after she marries and moves far away from her mother and sisters.

But Penelope's lack of self-assurance causes her marriage market efforts to flop. Meanwhile, Colin is back from his summer adventures looking fresh and feeling more confident than ever.

But now that he knows Penelope, the one person who has truly accepted him for who he is, is rejecting him, he feels dejected. Colin, desperate to regain Penelope's friendship, offers to be her confidante and guide as she seeks a marriage this year.

But when Colin's lectures prove to be too effective, he must question whether his emotions for Penelope are more than platonic, as the Netflix blurb puts it.
