Who was Bob Ross?

was a painter, art educator, and television personality from the United States. He created and hosted The Joy of Painting, an educational television programme that broadcast on PBS in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe from 1983 until 1994. Ross became well-known after his death as a result of his posthumous internet presence.

As the world's most famous art educator, Bob Ross gave delight to millions of people. A fight for his corporate empire, however, put a pall over his cheerful trees.

Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, to carpenter Jack Ross and waitress Ollie Ross, and was reared in Orlando, Florida. Ross rescued wounded creatures as a child, including armadillos, snakes, alligators, and squirrels, one of whom was featured in numerous episodes of his television show.

Ross joined the United States Air Force as a medical records technician when he was 18 years old in 1961. He climbed through the ranks to master sergeant and served as the clinic's first sergeant at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, where he first encountered the snow and mountains that would later become frequent motifs in his paintings. During his regular work breaks, he perfected his fast painting style.

A Gist About what's in the movie

This new Netflix documentary follows the adult son of the TV painter, who claims that his father's legacy has been unfairly exploited by longterm business associates who have acquired control of his name and likeness. Now that the family behind that company, Bob Ross Inc., has watched the video, they've launched a stinging rebuttal, calling Joshua Rofé's film “inaccurate and extremely biassed.”

The filmmakers behaved in bad faith, according to one of their most fiery allegations. While the Netflix film's producers contacted Bob Ross Inc. twice, in late August and October 2020, each request was met with a befuddling lack of openness, according to the statement. “At no point did they ask Bob Ross Inc. specific questions or seek refutation to particular statements they had selected to put in the film. It was also not mentioned that they had a Netflix distribution deal.”

Ross's old painting series was previously aired on Netflix, sparking newfound interest in his art decades after his death in 1995 at the age of 52. The show is no longer available on the service, despite the fact that Bob Ross Inc. still owns it.

  • Twitch said that 5.6 million people watched the marathon, and the company decided to replay one season of The Joy of Painting every Monday because of its popularity. Several organisations, notably St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, were guaranteed a part of the advertising money.

Public Statement From Bob Ross Inc.

Bob Ross Inc. is outraged by the Netflix video Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal, and Greed's incorrect and extremely skewed representation of our firm.

All of Bob Ross Inc.'s equal partners – Bob and Jane Ross, and Walt and Annette Kowalski – have had the same aim since the company's inception in 1984: to promote and support the value of painting across the world. This was the company's objective from the beginning, through Bob Ross' final years, and it continues to be the company's driving purpose following Bob's tragic death over 25 years ago.
