Because Liz had some significant relationships within the show's dynamics – both with Red and with Ressler – it is expected that there will be some substantial changes due to her passing.

Season nine jumps ahead two years in time, catching up with the lives of the FBI Task Force members as they attempt to move on from the death of one of their members.

After Liz's death, it is revealed early on in the season that the team has disbanded, with Red disappearing due to Liz's death. However, it doesn't take long for him to reintegrate into the group.

After he is injured and his partner is killed, Dembe, now an FBI agent, proves to be the catalyst for the attack.

After enlisting the assistance of the task force, they return to their search for Red.

However, even with Redback in the picture, their relationships are more fractured than ever, and two years without Liz has proven to be a devastating blow to everyone involved.

In Episode 7, a special episode devoted to his feelings about Liz's death, Ressler's reaction to Liz's death is depicted.

What transpired was that after discovering her body, he immediately set out to track down Red and ended up in a drunken car accident, back on prescription medication, and eventually surrendered his gun and badge as his life spiraled downward.

Fortunately, he finds comfort in the company of a hotel manager and her son, and two years later, he appears to be a little more prepared to face the world without Liz.

On a different level, the health of Red has been a source of controversy throughout the series, leading some to speculate that he may be killed off.

If season nine is to be the series' final season, as many fans believe it will be the case, it could be the ideal way to conclude the run of episodes.

In an unusual turn of events, we've received confirmation of the season's release date and schedule. You may recall James Spader's justification for shaving his head for the pilot episode of The Blacklist…

At the Television Critics Tour in Beverly Hills, Spader said, “Actors are burdened with everything else that they've done before that, any role that they're playing, and I thought it would be nice to take off my hat as an entirely different person” (via EW).

In addition, Spader thought the juxtaposition of the shot with him in the long hair [as seen in his mug shot] would be a great moment.

“I thought it would be a great moment when he surrenders himself and takes his hat off and the juxtaposition of the shot with him in the long hair [that you see in his mug shot],” he said.
