Black Mirror Season 6 Trailer
Netflix hasn’t released a trailer for Season 6 of Black Mirror because it hasn’t been announced yet, but you can watch a trailer for one of the episodes from Season 5 to remind us how wonderful this show is.
Recap: Season 3; Episode 6; Hated in the Nation
Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker declares Twitter to be one of the 25 most important video games ever in the 2013 documentary How Video Games Changed the World and claims that video games have “provided a safe space for people to run riot; to fantasize out loud without anyone getting killed.”
This is a theme he delves into in “Hated in the Nation,” a novel that takes the concept of Twitterstorms to a dark and dangerous level.
The longest episode of the third season, “Hated in the Nation,” is a noir, X-Files-style episode set in a near-future London.
This season, if there’s one thing we can praise this program for, it’s its dedication to the genre.
The 90-minute episode has all of the trappings that we’ve come to expect from prestige police dramas while still managing to keep things interesting. (At times, the show reminded me of the David Fincher-inspired episode from Community.)
We knew from the start that the case in this episode isn’t going to end happily.
(Kelly McDonald) is ushered into a hearing room to address a case in front of a panel when the episode begins.
Close-ups of her face suggest that whatever happened hasn’t made her feel any better.
Following that, we flashback to May 15 and get our first look at Karin.
She possesses all of the characteristics of a cynical investigator that we would expect from a scenario like this (albeit they are generally possessed by a man): She’s divorced, lives alone, and eats an unhealthily balanced diet.
She watches the news as she eats her evening Pringles, which includes a report about the internet turning against columnist Jo Powers for writing an article that everyone despises, as well as a report that the Autonomous Drone Insects (ADIs), or robot bees, have been released to make up for the fact that bees are extinct.
Jo Powers seems unfazed by the outrage on the internet. Passers-by tell her she should be ashamed of herself, but she keeps walking.
When she receives a cake with the words “F—–g Bitch” on it, she calmly slices a slice and eats it, explaining to her shocked husband, “It’s a cake.” That’s what it’s for.”
With a glass of wine in her hand and a smile on her face, she reads through the venom filling up her mentions late at night. You get the impression that this isn’t something she’s done before.
