Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror is a British anthology television series. Individual episodes explore a variety of genres, but the majority are set in near-future dystopias using science fiction technology—a sort of speculative fiction.
The series is based on The Twilight Zone and uses technology to remark on current social issues. The majority of the episodes are written by Brooker, with assistance from executive producer Annabel Jones.
In addition to the interactive feature Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, there are 22 episodes spread across five seasons and one special (2018). The first two series, as well as the 2014 special “White Christmas,” aired on the British network Channel 4 between 2011 and 2013.
The show was eventually relocated to Netflix, where three additional seasons aired in 2016, 2017, and 2019. A sixth Netflix series has been approved. Netflix released two related webisode series, and a companion book to the first four series, Inside Black Mirror, was published in 2018. Many episodes' soundtracks have been published as albums.
