Golden Globe Awards 2023: Let’s Explore “Who Won Best Motion Picture Drama?”

A year ago, a diversity and ethics crisis rocked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, prompting NBC to pull its coverage of the Golden Globes. After a year hiatus and some half-hearted attempts at change, NBC decided to bring back the awards program.

The notoriously rowdy celebration, which had dwindling viewership even before the pandemic began, will be led by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. Let's check Who won Best Motion Picture Drama at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards.

Who Won Best Motion Picture Drama?

At the 80th annual Golden Globes, Steven Spielberg's autobiographical epic “The Fabelmans” was awarded the trophy for Best Motion Picture, Drama. Spielberg and his ensemble received the evening's last prize from the director and actor Quentin Tarantino.

Other nominations included Todd Field's “TAR,” Joseph Kosinski's “Top Gun: Maverick,” James Cameron's “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and Baz Luhrmann's “Elvis.” Although this was the night's largest award, Spielberg had already won Best Director for his work on this very personal subject, which is a loose dramatization of his own background, earlier in the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Spielberg has been nominated for and won eight and nine Golden Globes, respectively, but tonight marks his eighth and ninth victory. In addition, he has won Best Director and Best Motion Picture, Drama at the ceremony before for his works on “Schindler's List” (1994) and “Saving Private Ryan” (1999).

Steven Spielberg, who wrote and directed an autobiographical film about his time working as an assistant to John Cassavetes, won the award. “I raced to the delis and grabbed them everything they wanted; I got them coffee, I got them whatever they wanted.

Spielberg has said, “I treat my PAs so well because I know what it's like to be one,” and that's why he does so. As the nominees gathered at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles for the first time in a physical setting and on live television since 2020, the atmosphere was electric.

Austin Butler won the award for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in Elvis, while Michelle Yeoh won the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
