It can be intimidating to dive into the world of dating apps when you don't know what you're looking for. While some apps are designed for casual hookups, others stress the importance of spending quality time together before jumping into anything serious. There's a service for every occasion, whether you're looking for marriage or just a casual hookup.
We've compiled a list of the top dating apps to help you find a partner, temporary or permanent.
1. Thursday
Why wait until the weekend when you can meet your online sweetheart on Thursday? To paraphrase Parks, “Perfect for people who are tired of spending countless hours communicating on dating apps only to never have a date happen,” the app's name says it all.
The new dating app “Thursday” is only active on Thursdays, hence the name. Within that time frame, daters can make the call on whether or not to move from virtual to the actual meeting. On top of that, “Thursday offers a wonderful opportunity to liven up a formerly humdrum day of the week,” as Parks puts it.
2. Hinge
The original purpose of Hinge was to introduce you to people in your social circle. When CEO Justin McLeod first launched the app, it displayed user profiles in accordance with their proximity to one another and the Facebook friends they already had in common. In its current form, it only puts its users in touch with others in their selected area.
3. Stir
Dating as a single parent can be challenging, but there are strategies you can use, such as looking for a partner who is also a single parent. Single parents on the dating scene can find a welcoming community in Stir. You don't have to have children of your own to join the app; in fact, that's not even a requirement.
Parks adds, “This software provides an opportunity to avoid the ‘when should I communicate that I have kids?' conundrum.” Single parents who have struggled to find a partner in the past because of their hectic schedules will find a shared experience and support network within this app.
4. Tinder
Tinder, another famous dating app, has a great interface. Its desktop version makes it more usable. Like other apps, it has free and paid versions. You can find a date with the free version.
You can swipe through Tinder's free version to find a match. The profile information is minimal. Choose a heart, X, or right swipe for profiles you like. If you don't like them, swipe left and continue. You can message someone you like if they like you back.

5. eHarmony
Marriage counselor Omar Ruiz, LMFT recommends eHarmony for those who are looking for long-term partnerships. If you want more compatible matches from the app, you'll need to fill out a lengthy profile and answer a number of questions.
A lot can be gleaned about a person on eHarmony before striking up a conversation. He explains that the profile pool is small because its users “don't want to deal with the ups and downs of dating app culture and want to settle down.”
6. Bumble
Bumble is a timed Tinder for women. Free dating app Bumble asks women to message first. He loses dates if he doesn't respond within 24 hours. My love life needed arbitrary time limitations.
Some like that the timer encourages touch. Bumble isn't for procrastinators. Bumble eliminates insecure men because women must message first. On other applications, I've noticed fewer overconfident men. I'll save Bumble's BFF option for later.
7. OkCupid
For good reason, it's been around 18 years. OkCupid attracts a varied group of people seeking romantic, platonic, and alternative partnerships. Users can search by gender, sexuality, and nonmonogamy on the site.
OKCupid's keyword search, long-form profiles, and personality quizzes help users locate matches. It's a popular dating service if you want to avoid swiping and meet people with high match percentages and common interests. Schneider says OkCupid is “amazingly inclusive.” Some basic functions are paywalled, though.

Although Raya has earned the moniker “celebrity dating app,” membership is open to anybody. However, unlike most dating apps, this one requires an application to join and is extremely selective.
