Avowed – A First-Person RPG From The Outer Worlds Studio!

According to the official announcement, Avowed is a new fantasy role-playing game set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity that will be released in the summer of 2020. That's a significant amount of money for developer Obsidian, which is the same team that most recently delivered us The Outer Worlds and who once worked on Fallout: New Vegas before that.

Avowed

It is expected that Avowed will be made available on Game Pass when it launches on Xbox One X and PC and that more information will be released throughout the year.

To tide you over until then, we've compiled a comprehensive list of everything we know about Avowed so far, including a stunning reveal trailer that was released last year.

What is Avowed?

Avowed is a new IP from Obsidian that was presented on the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2021 in Los Angeles. The short teaser clip confirms that it would be a first-person RPG in the vein of Skyrim, with rune-based magic skills and sword fighting, as shown in the trailer.

It takes place in the land of Eora, which is the same setting as Obsidian's RPG Pillars of Eternity, which was released last year.

Avowed

Obsidian's next AAA project was described in job listings unearthed in September of 2019 as having “combat actions utilizing both first and third-person animations,” as well as “branching dialogue” and “day/night cycles” among other things.

This places the game in the same league as Obsidian's previous RPGs, such as The Outer Worlds and Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, among others.

Avowed release date and platforms

We haven't heard anything regarding a possible release date for Avowed, but we think it is in the midst of intensive production right now, so it could be a long time before we hear anything.

Obsidian Entertainment was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, which means that this game will most probably be an Xbox exclusive, available on both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles as well as the PC.

Avowed

The fact that the Xbox One is not listed as a supported platform on the game's store page indicates that this will not be a cross-generational release.

The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, as will the remainder of Microsoft's first-party releases in the future, according to the company.

Avowed trailer

First and foremost, the very first Avowed video, which was shown at the last Xbox event, takes us to a diverse medieval world, beginning with a battle-torn castle that is held by an empire of queens and kings “that has known war from the beginning.”

According to the narrative, this empire has now fallen into ruin, has forgotten its oaths, and has given rise to an unknown adversarial entity.

According to the game's nasty monsters (skeletons have been confirmed! ), these misdeeds have resulted in the creation of these creatures, and the player character will have to deal with them during the course of the game.

According to the question posed at the end of the film – “Is an oath worth the weight of a crown?” – it is possible that the player's destiny will be that of royalty, and that they will be forced to confront and question their fate as they work to restore the destroyed kingdom.
