Sara Evans, a country music artist, opened up about reconciling with her husband Jay Barker on her new podcast, Diving Deep with Sara Evans. Sara filed for divorce from Barker in 2021, and he was later arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after reportedly attempting to hit Evans' car with his own. In her latest podcast episode, Evans discussed Barker's arrest and how they eventually got back together.
How did Sara Evans and Jay Barker get back together?
Sara Evans stated that the road to reconciliation with Barker was not simple, but it began a few months after his incarceration when she was on tour and Barker texted her, “Everybody says I shouldn't contact you, but you are still my wife.” Evans stated that the message made her feel more at ease, and she responded.
“Many women will, and want to, judge me. I don't understand what he meant when he said, “But you are still my wife.” I just melted because I thought, “I am still your wife, and we can talk if we want.”
We are both adults. So I texted him back, and I think I just responded something short and simple, like, “How are you?” I'm on the road,' and we kind of tiptoed back to each other,” she added. Following that, they underwent extensive marriage counseling and therapy before reconciling.
Though she initially kept it a secret from her two kids, Audry and Olivia, as well as her son Avery, whom she shares with her ex-husband Craig Schelske, she eventually told them. She stated that winning back her daughter was not easy for Barker, but he has managed to patch things up somewhat.
