Archive 81 Seasons 2-Archive 81 is both more addicting and creepier than the cassettes Dan is supposed to classify. What begins as a slow-burn mystery quickly escalates into a full-fledged cosmic headf**k.
We wouldn't be shocked if a season two announcement is imminent, given how season one finishes. We'll simply hide in the basement and pray to The Ferryman for additional episodes until Netflix verifies this. Because it's evident that nothing was taught from this show.
Here's all you need to know about the second season of Netflix's Archive 81.
When will the second season of Archive 81 air?
If Netflix renews Archive 81 in February, around a month after the premiere of season one, we may expect season two to premiere in early 2022. However, if Netflix takes its time with an official confirmation, this might take longer. Alternatively, if demons come in the way.
Who will appear in Season 2 of Archive 81?
In Archive 81, death doesn't always mean you're gone for good, so anticipate all of the following cast members to return, no matter what happened to them in season one:
- Mamoudou Athie as Dan Turner
- Dina Shihabi as Melody Pendras
- Martin Donovan as Virgil
- Matt McGorry as Mark
- Julia Chan as Anabelle
- Ariana Neal as Jess
Following his escape from the mirror world, showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine stated to Variety that Evan Jonigkeit will reprise his role as Samuel:
“Samuel is still a major character in the plot. Season two, I believe, is titled “Where is Samuel?” What happened to him? And I believe that is a fascinating branch of our tale about which we have a firm grasp.”
Let's only hope The Ferryman gets a makeover because parts of the CGI was distractingly terrible rather than terrifyingly frightening.
What will happen in Season 2 of Archive 81?
In the season one finale, Melody saved Jess, and by the conclusion of the season, Dan had rescued her by recovering Melody from the evil mirror realm. What about Dan, though?
The first season of Archive 81 closes with Dan waking up in New York City after the Visser is destroyed. Yes, you read that correctly. Dan is now locked in the past with which he had been so infatuated.
If you were worried that this final scene was simply another Kaelego ruse, producer Rebecca Sonnenshine has confirmed that Dan is stranded in the 1990s (via Variety):
“He's in the actual 1990s, as shown by the absence of pollutants in the air. He was born in the year 1994. And the question we're posing is this: we've all seen folks vanish into The Otherworld at different times, right? So, what exactly does that imply?
“It indicates there are small holes, small pokes, and small entry and exit locations. And that individuals got tangled up in there attempting to get out, and that they may not have exited via the correct door.”
There's a lot to go on now that Dan is lost in time, assuming Netflix renews Archive 81 for a second season. Expect to see more of the actors from the 1990s, as well as younger versions of the modern-day characters, including Dan himself, who survived the Visser fire.
We expect Melody to do everything she can to save Dan now that their positions have effectively been switched, most likely with the help of Mark and her mother.
Samuel, on the other hand, will probably likely have something to say about it. Even though he didn't appear beside Melody in the end, he's still plotting new methods to reintroduce his beloved demon into our world.
On top of any covert cult adherents that could stand in Melody's way, we also have to fear Virgil.
In an interview with EW, Sonnenshine indicated that the killers of Dan's family may play a bigger role in the future:
“We know who did it, and we'll find out in season two. There are a lot of tiny Easter eggs or stuff like that that you could see and question, “I wonder if it's part of the mythology and will be explored further?” Yes, indeed.
“Some items just did not cut for the season. You develop all this mythology for a mythology series, and then you realise, “Oh, we don't have a place for all of that.” So that was one of the pieces we decided to save for season two.”
When will the second season of Archive 81 be released?
We can't expect fresh video without the assistance of that unfortunate seance lady. However, a trailer for Archive 81 season two should be released around a month before the new episodes are released on Netflix.
Netflix has made Archive 81 available to watch.
