“Animal Kingdom” is a great crime show with a lot of messy family drama mixed with many robberies every week. “Smurf” Cody (Ellen Barkin) is the tough matriarch of a family of career criminals who steal to get by.
The Codys will do anything to keep the good life they've built going, even if that means putting their youngest member, Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole), in danger.
Because of the death of his mother, Julia, and Smurf's only daughter, Julia, the 17-year-old is now Smurf's ward after Julia died. As she runs the group and tries to keep the family's Southern California home, Smurf has an iron fist and stands over her sons.
Smurf's younger self, Janine, is played by Leila George in the show. As she grows up, she joins a street gang and moves on to selling drugs, laundering money, and killing the competition on her way to forming her crime syndicate.

Animal Kingdom Recap
Joshua “J” Cody, 17 years old, is the main character in the Animal Kingdom story. After the death of his mother, he moves in with his relatives, the Codys, who runs a criminal family business that Janine “Smurf” Cody runs.
Joshua, who lives with them, decides to join their crime agency because he wants to help them out. There's a police officer there to help Joshua escape the trouble. In the fourth season, Smurf is shot and killed.
We Don't Know Yet Who Will Be in Season 6
Nobody from TNT has announced changes to the cast or new cast members ahead of Season 6. But there are still a lot of storylines left over from Season 5. It's easy to figure out which main characters will be back for Season 6.
Smurf's three sons – Andrew “Pope” Cody, Craig Cody, and Deran Cody – are all likely to return to the show as well. Leila George is expected to play the younger Smurf again. Finn Cole, of course, will be back as J, and Jon Beavers and Rigo Sanchez, who played young Jake Dunmore and Manny in the flashback universe, will also be back.
People who work for the police, who we've probably already met. The Cody gang made a gruesome discovery at the end of Season 5, and they're now on the trail of the Codys.
Season 6 of Animal Kingdom Plot
Season 4 star Shawn Hatosy, who plays Andrew “Pope” Cody, said on Twitter that the show would end on a good note. There will be no more unanswered questions in the past seasons.
Police finally found the body of Catherine Blackwell (Daniella Alonso) at the end of Season 5. She was the wife of the late Barry “Baz” Blackwell, J's real father and Smurf's adopted son.
Catherine dies in the first season when Pope suffocates her for stealing money from Smurf after Catherine tries to seduce him weirdly. Catherine's body is found in a new housing development connected to the Codys. This will be the main point of the next season.
They also work on a plan to lead the Cody group after Smurf dies. His long-term girlfriend, Renn, finally breaks up with him because of his drug use.
So, the last chapter is going to be a fight. It will be interesting to see who takes charge of Cody's criminal empire.

Sources say that Animal Kingdom Season 6 will come out in 2022. We don't know the exact release date yet, but we think the sixth movie in the series will come out this summer. People might be able to watch the season from May 2022. TNT has already shown us the teaser for the last season of our favorite show.

This is the sixth season of the Animal Kingdom series, but it is also the last season of the Cody family show. It means this family-themed TV show won't be the 7th season.
