Finally, “American Born Chinese” release date has been announced and the audience will enjoy the movie on Disney+, which will be premiered on 24 May 2023(Wednesday). This is a comedy-action series starred by “Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan” who are listed as high-rated actors.
The series is based on the graphic novel Gene Luen Yang which means “American Born Chinese” which is a genre-hopping action comedy that tells the story of Jin Wang. Jin Wang is an average teenager juggling high school with his domestic life. When he is acquainted with foreign students on the first day of the school year, then more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.
What Is American-Born Chinese About?
The movie portrays the story of Jin Wang, a Chinese-American teenager who struggles with his identity in a predominantly white American culture. The show receives views on a journey of self-discovery, as Jin learns to navigate the complexities of his cultural background. Also, the expectations of those around him are also involved. He finds himself engaged in battle among the Gods of Chinese mythology when he meets a foreign exchange student named Wei-Chen.

“The Monkey King” character is primarily considered as of the Gods. This particular character was initially introduced to Chinese folklore in the 16th-century novel, Journey to the West. The few stories about The Monkey King refusing to accept himself, especially his physical form. He initiated to change himself, so, changed his outward appearance into a more human form. After that, he is trapped in a cave of mountains.

He is convinced by a friend that he requires to accept his original form in order to solve his problems. He is able to easily escape his rocky prison when The Monkey King reverts to his normal shape and size. The movie is a coming-age story that explores themes of ethnicity, and belonging, identity making it a relevant addition to the Disney+ lineup.

Who Will be Seen in American-Born Chinese?
The main character, Jin Wang, will be played by Ben Wang. He is best known for his recent appearances in the films Sex Appeal and Good Egg. He made his first acting appearance in 2021 in the television seriesMacGuyver and is also credited with writing and directing a short film that same year called Walter and France.
Michelle Yeoh(Academy Award Winning actress) (Everything Everywhere All At Once) will be playing the role of Guanyin. Guanyin is a bodhisattva in Chinese mythology who is associated with compassion and mercy. She is also known as the “Goddess of Mercy” and is one of the most popular and revered deities in Chinese culture.
The production companies behind American Born Chinese are MarVista Entertainment and 20th Television. Paired with a stacked cast of Asian-American actors, the series is sure to be a big hit.
