Aly Raisman Early Life
Needham, Massachusetts, welcomed Alexandra Rose Raisman on May 25, 1994. Aly was motivated to take up gymnastics by her mother, a former gymnast, and was raised in a Jewish home with three siblings.
Raisman started her gymnastics training at the age of just two. She grew up watching VHS tapes of the 1996 U.S. women's Olympic team's “Magnificent Seven” performances.
Aly began her gymnastics and climbing training at Exxcel before transferring to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club. The now-famous doctor Larry Nassar began abusing Aly sexually when she was 15 years old. Much later in her career, she made this information public. As she finished her senior year of high school through online coursework, Raisman was already preparing for the Olympics.
Aly Raisman Career
In 2009, Aly Raisman made her professional gymnastics debut by participating in the American Classic in San Diego. Then, in Des Moines, Iowa, she participated in the U.S. Classic. Aly participated in the 2009 National Championship in Dallas and finished third. Another stunning outcome was again during the Junior Pan American Championships in Brazil.
Raisman continued participating in 2010 and finished second in the American Cup in Worcester, Massachusetts. There were even better outcomes at events like the City of Jesolo Trophy, the Pacific Rim Championships, and the U.S. Classic in Chicago. Raisman finished third at the American Cup in Jacksonville, Florida, following her performance at the 2010 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, where she took thirteenth place.
Aly triumphed at the Chicago U.S. Classic in 2011. She led the American squad for the first time that year while competing in Tokyo's World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She finished fourth individually, and the team took first place. Raisman debuted her signature tumbling pass around this time, and she received recognition for both its ingenuity and difficulty.
Raisman was named the captain of the American Olympic Team following successful performances in several events leading up to 2016 (including a gold medal at the Pacific Rim Championships and a victory at the U.S. Classic in Hartford).
Raisman and her squad again took home the gold after an outstanding performance in the qualifying round. The group was titled “The Final Five” this time. Raisman improved upon her 2012 performance and took home two silver medals. Aly's career as a gymnast came to an end after this.
Turning Her Struggles Into Triumphs
Unfortunately, Raisman had the same fate as many of her rivals and was sexually attacked by the team doctor who served as the American Olympic team's representative for several years.
