After learning more about Chad and Lori, the police decided the death was suspicious and exhumed her remains from her home in October 2019, despite their initial claim that she died of natural causes. There has been no public release of the results of the autopsy.

It was announced in November by Phoenix police that they are also looking into Lori's third husband, Joseph Ryan, death. According to the autopsy results, he had a heart attack in 2018.

According to the case files, Cox and Lori both reside in the same Idaho apartment community. These results also demonstrate that authorities used information gleaned from Cox's phone to determine the precise locations of the children's remains on Chad Daybell's property.
