If I tell you two words, “Gunpowder Milkshake“, what is the first thing that will come to your mind? I am sure you are clueless like me about what these two words are doing together, am I right?
Or, to some, it may also sound like someone tried to kill a person but in a unique flair by adding gunpowder. Who does that? But yes, let’s not focus on the words, rather let's talk about the movie “Gunpowder Milkshake”.
If you like action and thriller movies you are going to love “The Gunpowder milkshake”. It has secured a 6 on 10 ratings in IMDb, and it is 63% fresh on rotten tomatoes.
It was released on Netflix on 14th July this year all over the US. The film’s first announcement was made during the American Film Market in 2018. The film received mixed reviews.
Karen Gillan stars as the main cast of the film. So now, let’s talk about the plot, but let me tell beforehand, it's a spoiler alert!!!
The Plot
Sam(Karen Gillan) sees a flashback of the time when she was 12 years old. Particularly of his mother, Scarlet, who was an assassin. She is fleeing away after a job went wrong, that is, she killed the men who came to kill her, and after killing them, she escapes.
(I am not sure if you read it all right or not, so you can read it again).
Cut to 15 years, Sam is working for Nathan, HR of the same company where her mother worked as an assassin. Sam goes to a weapon armoury disguised as a library to exchange new weapons where she meets Anna May, Madeline, and Florence, former co-mates of Scarlet, who intend to kill her but didn’t after learning her true identity.
Sam infiltrates the hotel room and also shot the man a bullet in his abdomen, responsible for stealing. There she learns that he stole this money to save his young girl, Emily, from a kidnapper. After knowing this, Sam takes her to a private firm that supported the hospital for his best treatment.
And she went to handle the transaction herself. Nathan gets to know about the plan and sends three henchmen to stop her. She somehow fights them off and then handles the transaction, rescuing Emily. She pursues her, but it results in the death of the kidnapper along with the damaging of the stolen money.
In the meantime, Nathan learns that one henchman she killed was the son of Jim McAlister, the head of a powerful criminal empire. To not further complicate things, she gave the location of Sam to the killers.
When Sam arrives at the hospital, she finds that Emily’s father was no more and he wasn’t able to survive the shot. Henchmen arrive there to kill her. Sam fights them off and gets a text from Nathan about a safe house location, still not realizing Nathan’s true intention.
To know what happened next, I would suggest you watch it, because it is more interesting to watch it.
Releasing Journey of Gunpowder Milkshake
STXfilms purchased the film's distribution rights in the United States in February 2020. STXfilms sold Netflix the American distribution rights in April 2021.
On July 14, 2021, Netflix released Gunpowder Milkshake in the United States, Canada, and the Nordic nations. It was also released in restricted theatres in the United States at the same time. StudioCanal premiered the picture in theatres in France on July 21, 2021, and it will be released in Germany on September 2, 2021.
The film will be distributed in cinemas in Latin America and China by STXfilms, and in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand by StudioCanal, commencing with a release in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand by StudioCanal.
Wrapping Up
I hope you liked the story till now. The plot is awesome with a fair share of action sequences and twists and turns. It’s a little bit predictable with Scarlet coming back but nonetheless, the movie makes up for it in the next scenes. Also, the creators have announced they will be releasing a new part and it is in development.
