An AMC Networks drama series, 61st Street, will premiere in its entirety at SXSW this year, and the network has announced the date on which it will be released. Beginning on April 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the forthcoming series will air on both AMC and AMC+ stations across the country.
The first episode of the drama series will be broadcast on both AMC and AMC+ at the same time, with the second episode of the series also being made available on the streaming service at that time. On Sundays, new episodes will be shown on AMC+ and ALL BLK, with episodes accessible a week early on AMC+ and ALLBLK.
Moses Johnson is played by Tosin Cole (Doctor Who), who also appears in the eight-episode series. Johnson is a Black high school athlete from Chicago who gets arrested for allegedly being a member of a gang after being accused of being one.
Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Lovecraft Country) co-stars as Franklin Roberts, a lawyer for Johnson, who is played by Emmy-winner Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Lovecraft Country).
To maintain the department's code of silence, Roberts must navigate the city's notoriously corrupt court system, which is being used to exact revenge on officers who died following a narcotics bust gone awry. Roberts must also navigate the city's notoriously corrupt judicial system.
61st Street is the brainchild of multi-time BAFTA-winning writer Peter Moffat, who is no stranger to the crime drama genre — Moffat won BAFTAs for “Best Television Drama Serial” and “Best Craft Writer” for his work on the BBC's Criminal Justice — and writer J. David Shanks.
Moffat and Shanks have previously collaborated on the BBC's Criminal Justice (The Chi). Among the other stars of the series are Aunjanue Ellis (When They See Us), Mark O'Brien (Ready or Not), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Andrene Ward-Hammond (Manifest), and Bentley Green (The Last Days of the Elders) (Sweet Magnolias).
How Many Episodes Are There in the First Season of 61st Street?
The first season of 61st Street will consist of eight episodes, which means that the 16 episodes that have already been recorded will be divided in half straight after filming. This first season has already begun running and will finish on May 17, 2022, according to the schedule.
As stated in the show's official summary, it is “a suspenseful drama that takes viewers into the heart of Chicago's iconic criminal justice system, as police and prosecutors investigate a tragic drug bust that threatens to tear apart the department's code of silence.”
