National Signing Day is seen as a holiday for most college football fans. Especially us: the die-hard Michigan Football fans, who have been through it all.
This year, though, was not something that was worth looking forward too.
Michigan lost Otis Reese from their class after he decided to sign with Georgia. Reese had been committed to Michigan for 18 months.
Otis is a 4 star LB and top 100 recruit according to 247Sports. Michigan’s already underwhelming class took a big hit when he flipped to Georgia.
Michigan also missed on 5 star OT Nicholas Petit-Frere. The Wolverines had been recruiting him for a very long time. Even though in recent weeks it was widely believed that he was not coming to Michigan, it was still a blow to Michigan watching him sign with Ohio State.
Michigan ended up with three additional signees on Wednesday on top of the 16 they received on Dec. 20th in the early signing period. They signed a wide receiver, defensive back, and an athlete. Let’s take a look at those 3 recruits who signed on NSD.
First up is Ronnie Bell. Ronnie is a 6’1″ 170 pound 3-star wide receiver out of Kansas City, Missouri. Bell is ranked 213th in his position, and 1,480th overall.
Not a highly touted prospect, but he has some speed with him. Look for this guy to make an impact in his later years as a Wolverine.
Next up is a defensive back named Vincent Gray. Vincent is from the greatest state in the country: Michigan.
Gray is ranked as the 64th best corner, and 702nd overall player according to 247Sports. Another 3-star prospect for the Wolverines. I have a feeling that this guy will be one of our best cornerbacks in the future.
The last of the three signees is “athlete” Michael Barrett. He played various positions at Lowndes High School, but he is listed as a dual-threat quarterback.
Michael is listed as a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports. He is the 61st best athlete and 754th overall player in his class.
After a signing day that left many Michigan fans disappointed, it’s time to turn our focus to the guys who did decide to join this class.
This class lacks stars but the talent is still there. Let’s see these players play before deciding to completely panic.
After NSD, 247Sports has Michigan bringing in the 21st best class in the country. Is this where anyone wants to be? No. But let’s not act like there’s no talent in this 2018 class.
